"Supple stepping does embellish the blows of the dazzling sword. Were our weapon despoiled of its proper steps, it would fall into the darkness of a night that is orphaned of the stars. Therefore we shall not call him victorious who wins by chance, throwing random blows like a brutal peasant, nor shall we call him vanquished who had proceeded according to the correct teachings. Indeed it is more respectable among knowledgeable men to lose with poise than to win erratically and outside of any elegance." -- Antonio Manciolino, 1531

Do not rush to be fast. Instead train to be correct, and speed will inevitably follow." - Ken Harding, 2015

Other Videos

It is not our intention to teach people how to do martial arts by video. That cannot be done. Our intention is to make useful information available for the benefit of our students, while making a contribution toward improving the quality of Historical European Martial Artists, thereby raising the credibility of HEMA within the martial arts community. These videos are not meant as a criticism of material put out by others. There is a large amount of HEMA material on the Internet-- some of it is excellent, much of it is mediocre, and some of it is not well executed and we cannot recommend it. This situation is not unique to those who practice the European styles-- Asian martial arts practitioners are equally vulnerable to unsound training practices, conceptual delusions and poor execution. It is our intention to do what we can to help the HEMA community by donating our experience and insight.
